Planet Quest

Climb into Piko's rocket and tour the solar system. Visit every planet, collect a passport stamp from each one, then show what you learned: put the planets in order, line them up by size and take the space quiz.

Tap a planet (or use the arrow keys) and Piko's rocket flies there. Read its fact card and collect a passport stamp.

Sizes and distances are not to scale.

Start here: Piko is parked at home. Tap anywhere on the map to fly!

Rocky planet

Earth

Order from the Sun: 3rd planet from the Sun
Known moons (as of 2025): 1: the Moon
One spin (a day): 24 hours
One trip around the Sun (a year): 365 days
Size compared with Earth: Our home planet: the one we compare all the others with.

Did you know?

Earth is the only planet we know of that has life.
Oceans cover more than two thirds of Earth. That is why it looks blue from space.

Keyboard: the arrow keys move along the map, Enter flies the rocket.

My solar system

Name:

Colour the Sun, the planets and the Moon. Can you say their names in order?

My planet fact booklet

Cut out the cards, colour the planets and staple them into a little book.

Mercury
Rocky planet
From the Sun: 1
Moons: None
Day: 59 Earth days
Year: 88 Earth days
Mercury is the smallest planet. It is only a little bigger than our Moon.
Venus
Rocky planet
From the Sun: 2
Moons: None
Day: 243 Earth days
Year: 225 Earth days
Venus is the hottest planet, even hotter than Mercury. Its thick clouds trap the Sun's heat like a blanket.
Earth
Rocky planet
From the Sun: 3
Moons: 1: the Moon
Day: 24 hours
Year: 365 days
Earth is the only planet we know of that has life.
Mars
Rocky planet
From the Sun: 4
Moons: 2: Phobos and Deimos
Day: 24 hours 37 minutes
Year: 687 Earth days (almost 2 Earth years)
Mars looks red because its dust is full of rusty iron. That is why it is called the Red Planet.
Jupiter
Gas giant
From the Sun: 5
Moons: More than 90
Day: About 10 hours
Year: About 12 Earth years
Jupiter is the biggest planet. More than 1,300 Earths could fit inside it.
Saturn
Gas giant
From the Sun: 6
Moons: 274
Day: About 10 and a half hours
Year: About 29 Earth years
Saturn's rings are made of countless pieces of ice and rock, from tiny grains to chunks as big as a house.
Uranus
Ice giant
From the Sun: 7
Moons: 29
Day: About 17 hours
Year: About 84 Earth years
Uranus is tipped right over and spins on its side, like a ball rolling around the Sun.
Neptune
Ice giant
From the Sun: 8
Moons: 16
Day: About 16 hours
Year: About 165 Earth years
Neptune has the fastest winds in the solar system: more than 2,000 kilometres an hour.

For grown-ups

The facts on the cards come from NASA data. Moon counts say “as of 2025” because telescopes keep finding new small moons, which is why Jupiter is shown as “more than 90”.
Say the memory sentence together: “My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos.” The first letters give the planets from Mercury to Neptune. Then invent your own silly one.
Try scale in the kitchen: if Earth were a pea, Jupiter would be about the size of a grapefruit and the Sun about as tall as a kitchen counter. Talk about why the map's sizes and distances are not to scale.
Print gives a black-and-white solar system colouring page and an eight-card mini fact booklet to cut out. On a clear evening look for the Moon together, and for Venus shining low near sunrise or sunset.

Nothing is saved: closing the page clears the game. No names, accounts or ads.
